California Romaine Lettuce E. coli Outbreak
Outbreak News
In May, 2008 ten people were infected with E. coli O157:H7 in Pierce and Thurston counties of Washington State. The outbreak was traced to bagged, commercial romaine lettuce, which was only sold to food service outlets (not grocery stores). All of the victims were infected after eating at restaurants and cafeterias, including those at Pacific Lutheran University in Parkland, Washington. The contaminated lettuce was traced to the Salinas Valley in California. Marler Clark filed lawsuits on behalf of two people sickened in the outbreak.
