Nebraska Beef Multi-State Outbreak 2008

An outbreak that began in Ohio and Michigan in June 2008 widened to include five more states - Kentucky, New York, Utah, Georgia, and Indiana.  The illnesses were traced to E. coli tainted meat from Nebraska Beef Ltd, who first recalled 531,707 pounds of beef, and then expanded the recall to 5.3 million pounds (7/3/08).  Much of the meat was sold through Kroger, which also put a recall into action.  There are 49 confirmed illnesses, but as many as 60 are sick.

In early August, more clusters of illnesses began to appear, and on August 8, Nebraska Beef recalled another 1.2 million pounds of beef, some of which had been sold to Whole Foods via Coleman Natural Meats.  At least 30 are sick in California, Colorado, Connecticut, Idaho, Illinois, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New Mexico, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Canada.

Marler Clark has filed four lawsuits on behalf of victims of the first part of the outbreak - two in Ohio and two in Georgia.
